How to get rid of carpenter ants?

I have a large carpenter ant nest inside my house, originally they seemed to avoid coming in, mainly because I blocked off there entrances. But yesterday they dug two new entrances into my house and now I see them everywhere. the new entrances are now blocked off and I'm killing them whenever I see them but the problem is this, I have a terrible phobia of ants and this large nest isn't helping. Blocking off the new entrances is only a short time fix because they'll probably just dig a new entrance later this summer. I'm tired of fearing my own house so I come here and ask this, are there any home remedies I can use to get rid of the nest once and for all, or at least for a few years. I heard borax mixed with sugared water should kill the nest but I want to ask here and make sure.
