Hunting Trophy Preservation Help?

Hi, I just shot my first deer (a gorgeous white-tail spike that I originally thought to be a doe when I took aim...). And because he was just a spike I decided to keep the tail as my hunting trophy, but I have no idea how to prepare it... I was told something about a borax powder but... I have no idea where to get it or how much it costs, and even if I do get it, how do I use it on the tail? I mean do I just throw some on there or put it in a bag with the flesh end trapped inside it or what? Also I would like to know if there are other options to preparing my trophy. Thanks :).
