Can I submerge an electric stapler under tap water and use it undewater? Thanks!?

Hi. I'm studying a master degree in advanced architecture and I would like to make a robot that staples theads inside a tank filled with water in order to have some interesting floating curved theads (like catenary structures but floating instead of hanging). Then, what I'm going to go is to warm that water, put some borax powder on it and crystalize the floating treads, keeping them with the floating shape they got. The thing is that I don't want to buy the electric stapler, put it in water and discover that it doesn't works. The tank is going to be more or less 12 inches deep. Thanks!
