If you dry out a deer hide with boric acid can you still tan it ?

ive had a deer hide for a few years that i treated with borax to dry it out. i already stretched it but the hair is still on it. if i use mayonmayonnaiseegg instead of brains and work the fibers out can i still make leather ??
