Is it possible to die by getting stabbed in the leg?

So I am watching this horror movie called The Graves. I know its a horror movie but yeah. The girl gets a metal bar and stabs this dude in the leg. It was like above his knee, first he was limping to get her then he fell on his face and died. Could there have been a certain spot she hit or did the movie just make the movie look stupider by him dying that way?
