Why does everyone assume that Scientology is such a bad religion?

Because it's a cult, if stories from the previous members are true, and their beliefs are beyond stupid. The religion was founded by a sci-fi writer and it has aliens. I mean you might as well go pick up any random science fiction book, call it a bible, and it would not be a bit different than following scientology.
